Today, I wanted to tell you a little bit about how and why I started writing my book…
The background
“The Journey” started as a short story titled “The Wall”. This was my philosophy. How I felt at the time, and how I perceived society.
I got to thinking and decided to make a book out of it. I put “The Wall” in my book as chapter number three and built a story around it.
The story
“The Journey” is a story about a boy growing up to become a man.
If any of the chapters parallel the ones in my life, let’s call it coincidence. After all, no one can write a book without having his or her own life experiences in there somewhere! There are a lot of mine in there and also some of my dreams.
The people and places come from different times and places but some events happened nearly as they were written.
The story is of no certain time, but it is set in a Southern Land. It captures various elements such as the mean, the evil and the greedy, which are bought down in their own web.
If you haven’t surfed before then hopefully the chapter titled “The Waves” will give you a love of the ocean. The feelings described in it are the ones I have experienced while surfing.
The characters
The people in The Journey are a mix of good and bad… There are people with dreams, and people with the desire to live life their way… People living in the city and some in the country.
They are not so much extraordinary but a mix of what we all are. They are the people I have encountered in my life, and that you have certainly also met.
I also put a horse and a rabbit in my story. These important characters were to transform the man and give him courage and hope through their actions.
Love, of course, comes from a woman called Holly, a beautiful woman and musician who takes an important part in the story.
My hope
This is a journey of a boy into a man, a story about how life can change, with the help of other people and a strong spirit.
I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Make sure you leave me a comment below!
John.
I read your book John and loved it!
The story and feelings in it felt authentic and I couldn’t help but get attached to the characters. I felt a little sad when the book ended as I wanted the story to continue, especially with the horse ”Destiny” 🙂
I read the book and it made me laugh and made me cry. The boy became a man through extreme difficulty but he didn’t loose his heart or his courage or his love for life. He loved Holly. I wished Holly didn’t die. Why did this happen?
I admit it , I’m generally not a book reader by heart , But this book had me intrigued from start to finish , I found myself reading this book as a nightly ritual before lights out – highly recommended book to read and involve your mind in the story .
It’s captivating!
Thank you so much Mark!
